Independent test engineers connected a Redvision CCTV X4 Commander PoE PTZ camera to a Comnet CNGE10FX2TX8MSBT switch over 100 meters of Cat5e cable. (The maximum run length allowed under IEEE 802.3). The switch was powered by a Comnet PS-A48500 48V PSU.

The camera ran a continuous tour pattern with its IR illuminators locked at full output for the entire test, the highest power draw the camera can produce, to see what happens when a PoE deployment is pushed to its real-world limit, not just its rated spec sheet.

The test was originally planned for one week. It ran for more than a month instead, because the results held up long enough to prove the point on their own: no truck roll to reset a dropped switch, no re-terminating a marginal run, no swapping a PSU that couldn't keep up.
